King Charles III welcomed Te Arikinui Kuini Nga wai hono i te po to Buckingham Palace on Thursday, according to a brief statement released by the royal family.
The palace also shared a photo from the meeting on its official Instagram account, showing the monarch greeting the Māori Queen during her visit.
No further details were provided about what was discussed during the private audience.
The Māori Queen is the leader of the Kīngitanga, also known as the Māori King Movement, which serves as an important cultural institution representing Māori tribes in New Zealand.
At 28 years old, she became the movement’s seventh monarch and only the second queen after being crowned in 2024.
The Kīngitanga operates independently from Charles’ constitutional role as New Zealand’s head of state and focuses on preserving Māori unity, culture and leadership traditions.
