The British royal family has marked a special occasion as the Duchess of Gloucester celebrated her 80th birthday on Saturday, June 20.
Born Birgitte van Deurs Henriksen in Denmark on June 20, 1946, the Duchess is married to Prince Richard, Duke of Gloucester, a first cousin of the late Queen Elizabeth II. The couple reside at Kensington Palace and continue to carry out royal duties on behalf of the Crown.
To commemorate the milestone birthday, Buckingham Palace shared two Instagram posts featuring new photographs of the Duchess along with highlights from her decades of public service and charitable work.
In its tribute, the Palace thanked "all the well-wishers on Her Royal Highness's special day," as royal fans and supporters flooded the posts with birthday messages.
Among those who reacted to the Palace's tribute was the official Instagram account of the Prince and Princess of Wales, which liked the posts celebrating the Duchess's birthday.
However, Prince William and Princess Kate did not publish a separate public message for the senior royal on their own social media channels.
The Duchess of Gloucester remains one of the monarchy's most dedicated working royals, known for her long-standing commitment to numerous charities and public engagements in the UK and abroad.
