King Charles Reacts to Tragic Rail Crash, Says He Is 'Greatly Saddened'

King Charles has expressed his sorrow following a devastating rail crash near Bedford that claimed the life of a train driver and left dozens of others injured.

According to British Transport Police, the collision occurred on Friday afternoon when two London-bound trains operating on the same track crashed north of London. The incident involved two services run by East Midlands Railway (EMR).

Authorities confirmed on Saturday that one of the train drivers died at the scene.

“Tragically, one person was pronounced dead at the scene. He is the driver of one of the trains involved,” British Transport Police said in a statement.

The crash also resulted in significant injuries. A total of 33 people were taken to hospital, including 11 who remain in serious condition. An additional 56 passengers received treatment for less severe injuries.

Transport Secretary Heidi Alexander said it was still too early to determine what caused the accident, adding that investigations are ongoing.

In response to the tragedy, Buckingham Palace released a statement on behalf of the King, confirming that he is being kept informed of developments.

“His Majesty is greatly saddened by the rail crash in Bedford yesterday evening and is being kept regularly updated on developments,” the statement read.

The King also extended his condolences to those affected by the incident.

“His thoughts and sympathies are with the family of the deceased and with all those injured or affected by such a tragic incident.”

The investigation into the cause of the crash continues as emergency services and railway officials work to establish exactly what happened.
