Royal expert says transparency and accountability will be crucial to the institution's future
King Charles III and Prince William are focused on modernising the monarchy and ensuring its long-term future through gradual but meaningful change, according to a royal expert.
Writing for the Mirror, royal commentator Russell Myers argued that both the King and the Prince of Wales recognise the importance of transparency and accountability at a time when public institutions face increasing scrutiny.
"The Royal Family knows that transparency, where questions are being asked of its suitability to rule and exist in a world where many feel the acute differences between the haves and have-nots and the ever-increasing disparity between rich and poor, will be key to its survival," Myers wrote.
The expert suggested that Charles has sought to lead according to a strong moral framework while navigating challenges that have affected the Royal Family in recent years.
Myers noted that the King's approach has been one of steady reform rather than dramatic transformation, a strategy that reflects the stability expected following the lengthy reign of Queen Elizabeth II.
"There has been evolution rather than revolution under Charles," he wrote. "Yet, with his advancing years, William must stand ready to continue to offer change at the heart of the monarchy for the nation to get behind him when the time comes."
According to the expert, Prince William is expected to play a central role in shaping the monarchy's future, building on the foundations laid by his father while adapting the institution to meet modern expectations.
The comments come amid ongoing debate about the role and relevance of the monarchy in contemporary Britain, with both Charles and William widely seen as key figures in guiding its next chapter.
