Royal Week, known in Scotland as Holyrood Week, takes place annually from late June to early July. During the week, King Charles visits communities across Scotland, meets people from a wide range of backgrounds, and hosts a large reception at the Palace of Holyroodhouse to recognize individuals who have made valuable contributions to their communities.
The celebrations traditionally begin with the Ceremony of the Keys, held in the forecourt of Holyrood Palace in Edinburgh. During the ceremony, the Lord Provost formally welcomes the King to the city by presenting him with the ceremonial keys of Edinburgh, symbolizing the monarch's arrival in "your ancient and hereditary kingdom of Scotland."
