Expert claims the Duchess of Sussex is open to reconciliation efforts as Harry seeks to rebuild family ties
Meghan Markle is reportedly supporting Harry's efforts to mend his relationship with the Royal Family, according to a royal commentator.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex stepped away from their roles as senior working royals in 2020 and moved to California to build an independent life away from royal duties and funding. However, recent comments have sparked speculation that the couple may be more open to reconnecting with the monarchy.
Speaking to Express, royal expert Alicia Liberty suggested that the couple's California reinvention has not unfolded as many had expected.
“The fairytale Californian reinvention has not unfolded quite as many imagined. Several ventures have stumbled, public enthusiasm has cooled and, perhaps most tellingly, reconciliation is suddenly back on the agenda,” she said.
Liberty pointed to Meghan Markle’s support for Harry’s efforts as a significant sign of change.
“It was made clear before they had to leave due to the impact on Meghan's mental health surrounding the institution, but now, she is not shutting down possibilities for a stint in the UK this summer,” the expert explained.
She also noted that Harry’s tone when discussing his family has softened over the past year.
“Over the last year, the Duke has repeatedly spoken about wanting reconciliation with his family. The language has softened,” Liberty said.
“Perhaps it is maturity. Perhaps it is family circumstances. Or perhaps it is the realisation that some bridges are worth rebuilding before it is too late.”
