Prince William is once again at the centre of discussions surrounding the future of the monarchy, with fresh claims suggesting he wants the long-running controversy involving Prince Andrew settled before he eventually becomes king.
Royal biographer Andrew Lownie recently shared his views on the matter during an interview with New Idea, arguing that William is playing an increasingly influential role within the Royal Family.
"William is calling the shots more now that we're in this transitional phase towards him taking over," Lownie said.
The comments come amid ongoing public attention surrounding King Charles III and his cancer treatment, which has fuelled speculation about the monarchy's future leadership and William's growing responsibilities.
According to Lownie, William's position on Prince Andrew is shaped by both personal and institutional concerns.
"He has both a personal animus against Andrew," the biographer claimed, referring to reports that Andrew's treatment of Catherine, Princess of Wales during her early years in the Royal Family contributed to tensions between the two men.
However, Lownie suggested that William's concerns extend beyond personal grievances.
"He can see the reputational damage Andrew has brought the monarchy," he said.
As a result, the royal author believes William would prefer the issue to be fully addressed before his own reign begins.
In Lownie's words, the Prince of Wales would like "the stables to be cleaned" before he ascends to the throne, reflecting what some royal observers view as his desire to protect the institution's long-term reputation.
Neither Buckingham Palace nor Kensington Palace has publicly commented on the claims, but the remarks add to ongoing debate about Prince Andrew's future role and William's increasing influence within the Royal Family.
