Royal experts say the Prince of Wales is increasingly focused on modernising the institution and protecting its long-term relevance.
King Charles' reign has faced significant challenges since its beginning, particularly following his cancer diagnosis, which prompted many people to reflect on the future of the monarchy.
As a result, attention has increasingly turned to Prince William and what his eventual reign could look like. Royal watchers have often compared his approach to family matters with that of his father, noting William's willingness to take firm action when he believes the monarchy's interests are at stake.
Royal commentator Richard Fitzwilliams recently shared his views with New Idea, explaining that William is focused on ensuring the monarchy remains relevant in a changing world.
"William is focused on the need for a monarchy which must adapt if it is to remain relevant, especially to younger generations," Fitzwilliams said.
The outlet suggested that the Prince of Wales is increasingly demonstrating a strategic side to his character. Once seen as cautious and reserved, William is now viewed by some observers as a future leader willing to make difficult decisions when necessary to safeguard the institution.
Fitzwilliams further noted that William understands the pressures the monarchy is likely to face in the years ahead.
"He is acutely aware of the challenges the monarchy will face in the future, and there is a steely determination behind his genial facade," the commentator added.
