Queen Camilla Opens Healing Rooftop Garden at London Hospital

The Queen visited St George’s Hospital to unveil a new outdoor space designed to support patients, families and healthcare workers.

Queen Camilla carried out a royal engagement in London on Tuesday, where she officially opened a new intensive care balcony at St George’s Hospital.

The rooftop garden has been created as a peaceful retreat for patients undergoing treatment for serious brain conditions, as well as their loved ones and NHS staff. Filled with greenery, trees and shrubs, the outdoor space offers fresh air and a calming environment to support recovery and wellbeing.

During her visit, Camilla toured the garden and met with patients and hospital staff. She praised the project, describing it as a valuable addition to the hospital.

“I’m sure all the patients here are going to benefit enormously from this, so I think you’ve done a wonderful job,” the Queen said.

The garden was developed through a partnership between St George’s Hospital Charity and the John King Brain Tumour Foundation. The charity was established in memory of celebrated chef John King, who died ten years ago after receiving treatment at the hospital following a brain tumour diagnosis.

The new rooftop sanctuary is expected to provide comfort and restorative benefits for tumour patients, stroke survivors and people recovering from brain injuries.
