A royal commentator has questioned claims that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle secured a major victory following a reported private reunion with King Charles.
According to royal expert Rob Shuter, the King met Harry, Meghan and their children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, at Highgrove. Queen Camilla was also reportedly present.
Some reports described the meeting as a significant step toward reconciliation between the Sussexes and the Royal Family. However, Shuter, citing palace insiders, argued that the gathering should not be seen as a surrender by the monarchy.
“Don’t believe the hype,” one source reportedly told him.
The insider said the meeting was simply about a grandfather wanting to spend time with his grandchildren.
“People are confusing compassion with capitulation,” the source added.
Shuter also pointed to what did not happen after the alleged reunion. There was no official photograph, public appearance, joint statement or announcement restoring Harry to a formal royal role.
There was also no reported change to the Duke of Sussex’s security arrangements or position within the monarchy.
According to the commentator, those details suggest the Palace did not intend to present the meeting as a full public reconciliation.
“If Buckingham Palace wanted the world to see this as a reconciliation, there would have been a picture,” he said. “The fact there wasn’t tells you everything you need to know.”
Shuter concluded that the gathering remained what the Palace reportedly wanted it to be: a private family moment involving the King, his son and his grandchildren, rather than a public rehabilitation of Harry and Meghan’s royal image.
