King Charles would reportedly like to see Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, but any visit would need to be private and carefully arranged, according to royal commentators.
The claims come amid reports that Meghan Markle may travel to the UK with her two children. Meghan, Archie and Lilibet did not accompany Prince Harry when he returned to Britain earlier this week.
Royal expert Richard Fitzwilliams said the relationship between the King and the Duke and Duchess of Sussex remains strained.
“The relationship between King Charles and the Sussexes is undoubtedly distant, and he is wary of them,” Fitzwilliams told Fox News Digital.
He added that the wider royal family remains divided, with Prince William reportedly unwilling to rebuild ties with Harry at this stage.
According to Fitzwilliams, King Charles’ main concern is protecting the future of the monarchy.
“The King’s biggest priority right now is the future of the monarchy,” he said, adding that Prince William, Princess Catherine and their children represent its future.
Royal commentator Hilary Fordwich also suggested that a single meeting would not be enough to repair the family’s relationship.
“Even if there were a meeting, any true relationship takes time,” she said, adding that members of the royal family, particularly Prince William, remain cautious.
Meanwhile, royal expert Helena Chard claimed that King Charles would welcome the opportunity to see Archie and Lilibet, but would want the visit to remain “strictly private and properly planned.”
She said the King naturally wants to spend time with his grandchildren but is reportedly frustrated by the continued public disputes, changing plans and arguments over security.
Any possible reunion has not been officially confirmed by Buckingham Palace or representatives for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.
