King Charles reportedly ensured that his reunion with Prince Harry and Meghan Markle took place on his own terms.
The monarch met the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, along with their children Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, at Highgrove House on Friday. The private setting allowed Charles to welcome his family while keeping control over how the meeting was handled.
Royal commentator Jasmine Carey suggested that the King had balanced personal emotion with careful diplomacy. Writing for the Express, she said Charles appeared to have followed his heart while also making it clear that Harry could not dictate every detail of the reunion.
Carey noted that Highgrove House is a private family residence rather than an official royal palace. That distinction gave the King greater authority to set boundaries, including restrictions on phones and photographs.
According to the commentator, choosing Highgrove also reduced the chances of private family moments being shared publicly or posted on social media.
The arrangement allowed Charles to spend time with his son, daughter-in-law and grandchildren while protecting the privacy of the occasion.
For the King, the reunion may have represented both a personal and diplomatic victory. He opened the door to reconciliation, but did so in a way that respected his own conditions and kept the family gathering away from the public spotlight.
