Prince Harry and Meghan Markle reportedly still face a major trust problem with King Charles, despite hopes of another family meeting.
Trust remains one of the biggest obstacles to repairing Prince Harry’s relationship with King Charles, according to a royal expert.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are reportedly hoping to meet the King at Highgrove with their children. However, royal author Jennie Bond believes that a possible family reunion would not immediately resolve the long-running tensions between the two sides.
Bond suggested that Harry and Meghan still have work to do before trust can be fully restored.
She described the reported meeting as a potentially decisive moment for Harry and his father, saying it could either help strengthen their relationship or make reconciliation even more difficult.
The royal author also discussed Harry’s continuing connection with his late mother Princess Diana’s family.
According to Bond, members of the Spencer family have quietly supported both Prince Harry and Prince William over the years. She said they had remained committed to the promise made by Earl Spencer at Diana’s funeral to protect her sons and allow them to live freely.
Bond noted that the Spencers were not directly targeted during Harry’s public criticism of the Royal Family. As a result, she argued, they may have found it easier to maintain positive relationships with both brothers.
She praised the family for handling the situation diplomatically and continuing to support Harry at important moments.
As an example, Bond referred to members of the Spencer family attending an anniversary event for the Invictus Games when senior members of the Royal Family were absent.
While there has been growing speculation about an improvement in Harry’s relationship with his father, neither Buckingham Palace nor the Sussexes have confirmed the reported Highgrove lunch plans.
Any reunion would likely be viewed as a positive step, but Bond’s comments suggest that rebuilding trust between Harry, Meghan and the Royal Family could still take considerable time.
