King Charles has reportedly opened the door to reconciliation with Prince Harry, even though the move may not have Prince William’s full support.
According to a source close to royal circles, the King has offered his younger son another opportunity to rebuild trust with the family. The insider described the development as a “complete 180” from the Palace’s previous approach.
The source claimed Harry has now realised that he will need to make serious compromises for any reconciliation to succeed.
“Harry has clearly come around and realised they need to get off their high horses and make a lot of concessions if this is going to work,” the insider told Closer.
Harry is also said to understand how close he came to permanently damaging his relationship with his father. For that reason, the King’s willingness to move forward reportedly feels almost unbelievable to him.
“The fact that Charles has agreed to move past everything that’s been said and done and give them another shot does feel like something of a miracle,” the source said.
The Duke of Sussex has reportedly promised not to do anything that could put the renewed peace process at risk.
However, King Charles’ willingness to consider a meeting does not necessarily mean he is overlooking the tensions of recent years. The source said strict expectations have been made clear to Harry, particularly when it comes to avoiding demands or trying to control how the reconciliation unfolds.
“It’s been spelt out to him just how catastrophic it will be to the peace process if there’s any sense that he and Meghan are making demands or trying to dictate how this will unfold,” the insider explained.
Harry will also reportedly have to balance the royal family’s conditions with his loyalty to Meghan Markle.
The couple usually makes major decisions together, but the source claimed Meghan may need to take a less prominent role during the early stages of any reconciliation.
That adjustment has apparently not been easy for Harry, who is said to admire his wife’s confidence and willingness to speak openly.
“He’s very proud of how strong and outspoken she is, and he’s certainly not asking her to change who she is,” the source said. “But at the same time, the gravity of this situation requires that they take a very different approach than they have in the past.”
For Harry, the challenge will be accepting the Palace’s conditions without abandoning his own principles or making Meghan feel excluded. Whether that balance can be achieved may determine whether the reported peace effort succeeds.
