Prince Harry could face another setback from his father, King Charles, just days after the pair reportedly reunited in Britain.
According to royal commentator Rob Shuter, Harry’s recent efforts to rebuild ties with the royal family, particularly with his father, may be linked to growing concerns over a potentially enormous legal bill.
Harry recently criticized a High Court ruling in his privacy case, describing the decision as a “whitewash.” The same court is reportedly expected to rule within two weeks on who should cover legal costs estimated at $67 million.
Shuter, citing palace sources, claimed that Harry’s remarks caused concern behind closed doors.
“The issue wasn’t that Harry criticized the ruling,” one palace insider said. “It was that he appeared to question the integrity of the judicial system itself. Judges don’t usually respond well to that.”
Legal experts quoted by Shuter also noted that courts have significant discretion when deciding costs. A person’s conduct throughout a case, including whether they acted unreasonably or prolonged proceedings, can affect the final amount they are ordered to pay.
“If the judge concludes Harry acted unreasonably or unnecessarily prolonged the fight, the price could be staggering,” one source claimed.
Another insider suggested that Harry may be hoping his renewed contact with the King could lead to financial support.
“It’s amazing how family suddenly becomes important when the bills arrive,” the source said. “Harry knows his father is one of the few people on earth who could write a check that size without blinking. Whether he actually will is another story.”
However, palace insiders believe Harry could be in for another “painful disappointment” if he expects reconciliation to come with a royal financial rescue.
King Charles has reportedly made it clear that Harry and Meghan are expected to remain financially independent and support themselves.
