According to a statement from Buckingham Palace, the King met specialist officers and learned more about their work before officially opening the building.
Among those present were first responders involved in the Huntingdon train attack and a recent train crash in Bedford. The monarch also met members of the force’s canine unit and drone team.
British Transport Police is responsible for policing Britain’s railways and several major transport systems, including the London Underground, Docklands Light Railway, Glasgow Subway and Tyne and Wear Metro. Its officers operate across England, Scotland and Wales.
The King’s engagement took place as his younger son remained in Britain for a series of official commitments.
Harry had reportedly considered travelling with Meghan Markle and their children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet. However, the Duke of Sussex ultimately made the trip alone because of ongoing concerns about the family’s security arrangements in the UK.
Meghan and the children remained at the couple’s home in California.
