Queen Camilla reportedly played an important role during King Charles’ meeting with Prince Harry, Meghan Markle and their children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.
Royal expert Richard Kay claimed Camilla attended the family meeting at the King’s request and may have acted as a “referee” between Charles and Harry.
Speaking to Richard Eden on Palace Confidential, Kay said Camilla would naturally have wanted to support her husband, although she may have had mixed feelings about meeting the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.
“You can understand why Camilla would have wanted to support Charles,” Kay said. “I don’t know whether she actually wanted to meet Harry and Meghan, with all the water that’s gone under the bridge.”
He suggested her presence would have been particularly important if Harry had attempted to persuade his father to agree to something the King was reluctant to do.
“She is an important referee,” Kay explained, adding that Camilla would have wanted to witness the discussion and ensure Charles had her support.
Royal commentator Rob Shuter has also claimed that Camilla supports efforts to repair the family’s strained relationships because of her love for Charles.
“She’s watched this family fracture in public, and if there’s a chance to heal it, she’ll stand behind her husband,” a source reportedly told Shuter.
However, the source added that rebuilding trust may take time: “Forgiveness doesn’t erase memory, and she hasn’t forgotten what Harry has said and done.”
While Camilla may be willing to support reconciliation, the claims suggest she remains mindful of Harry’s previous public comments about her and the Royal Family.
