Meghan Markle’s latest family photos have reportedly caused fresh tension within the Royal Family, with sources claiming King Charles was “genuinely shocked” and Prince William deeply upset.
The Duchess of Sussex recently shared a collection of pictures from her family’s summer holiday, featuring Prince Harry and their children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.
Some royal watchers believe the photographs were taken during a visit to Althorp House, the childhood home and final resting place of Harry’s late mother, Princess Diana.
In one image shared on Instagram, Lilibet is seen walking with her red hair blowing in the wind. She is wearing a printed summer dress and carrying toys and a small bag.
Prince Harry and Archie appear in the distance holding what look like bouquets. The detail prompted speculation that the family may have visited Diana’s grave, which is located on an island in the Oval Lake at Althorp. However, the Sussexes have not publicly confirmed the location or purpose of the visit.
Royal commentator Rob Shuter, citing unnamed sources, claimed the decision to share the photographs had upset senior members of the Royal Family.
“The King is genuinely shocked,” one source claimed.
The insider added that even people who usually avoid commenting on Harry and Meghan were uncomfortable with the images, believing that certain family moments should remain private.
Prince William was also reportedly distressed by the photographs because of his strong desire to protect his mother’s memory.
“William has always been fiercely protective of his mother’s memory,” another source claimed. “He’s upset, but sadly, he’s no longer shocked by anything Harry and Meghan do.”
Neither Buckingham Palace nor representatives for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have publicly responded to the claims.
