Meghan Markle’s close friend, Kelly McKee Zajfen, has shared a heartfelt tribute to her son Georgie, four years after his death following a viral illness.
Posting a photograph of Georgie on Instagram, Kelly reflected on how grief continues even as time passes.
“Four years. I don’t believe grief keeps time,” she wrote.
Kelly said that although four years had passed since Georgie’s death, the number still did not feel real to her.
“Time continues to move forward, but the loss doesn’t,” she added. “Grief doesn’t follow a calendar. It simply becomes part of who you are.”
While acknowledging the pain of the anniversary, Kelly said she did not want the day to be remembered only for heartbreak. Instead, she hoped it would inspire people to share love and kindness with others.
“I want it to be a day that sends love outward,” she wrote. “A day that reminds us that even the shortest lives can leave the longest ripple.”
Kelly also encouraged her followers, friends and supporters to donate $9 to Children’s Hospital Los Angeles in honour of Georgie’s nine years.
She explained that the hospital has cared for Georgie’s twin sister, Lily, for most of her life and continues to support her and many other children and families.
Ending the emotional tribute, Kelly wrote: “I miss you every day, Georgie.”
