Prince Harry has made his first public remarks since he and his family reportedly met King Charles during a private gathering in the UK.
The Duke of Sussex attended Scotty’s Summer Festival at Maxstoke Castle in Warwickshire on Saturday, July 11, one day after the reported family meeting.
Meghan Markle and their children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, did not join Harry at the public engagement.
The festival was organised by Scotty’s Little Soldiers, a charity that supports children and young people grieving the loss of a parent who served in the British Armed Forces.
During the event, Harry shared a touching conversation with a nine-year-old girl named Poppy, according to People.
Poppy asked him what makes him laugh after a difficult day.
Clearly moved by the question, Harry placed his hand on his chest and said: “That got me right there.”
He explained that laughter is not always easy when someone is going through a difficult time.
“Sometimes it’s just a difficult day. It’s not always possible to laugh,” he said.
Harry added that his dog and children often lift his spirits, while watching something funny on television can also help.
He told those attending the event that there are days when people may want to laugh but simply cannot.
The Duke then encouraged the children to turn to their siblings, friends and the wider Scotty’s community for support when times are hard.
He added that sharing a laugh at the end of a difficult day can sometimes be “the best medicine.”
Harry’s appearance was his first public engagement since King Charles reportedly hosted him, Meghan, Archie and Lilibet for a private family reunion.
The gathering was believed to be the monarch’s first meeting with Harry’s family since 2022.
