Prince Harry has reportedly earned an unflattering nickname among royal courtiers, with some insiders claiming his visits to the UK often create fresh challenges for the Royal Family.
The Duke of Sussex, who is currently visiting Britain, has been described as a source of concern for palace staff because of the uncertainty that can surround his appearances and public statements.
Royal editor Kate Mansey claimed that Prince Harry and Prince Andrew were once referred to as the “Dukes of Hazard” by courtiers.
“It was ‘Dukes of Hazard’. That’s the nickname they had for Andrew and Harry because hazard and chaos followed both of them,” she said.
According to Mansey, the two dukes were seen as major difficulties for King Charles during his reign.
“They were the two big problems that were pointed out to me by courtiers, big hurdles for the King,” she added. “Alarm signals flash every time their names are mentioned.”
Mansey also suggested that palace officials have become frustrated by what they see as a repeated pattern surrounding Harry’s visits.
“For weeks beforehand, there are briefings from his camp about what might happen, whether the children may come and whether he wants to bring them,” she said. “Then we have the familiar row over security.”
Prince Harry previously lost his legal challenge over the level of automatic police protection available to him while in the UK. However, security remains a major issue whenever he returns to the country.
Mansey claimed that royal courtiers are becoming increasingly tired of the repeated uncertainty.
“It seems every time he comes, palace courtiers get more and more weary with it,” she said, adding that she believes some members of the public may feel the same way.
