Prince Harry has offered a brief but encouraging update on King Charles’ health amid the monarch’s ongoing cancer battle.
The Duke of Sussex reportedly spoke about his father while attending the TIME100 Sports Gala in New York City on Thursday. When a guest asked how the King was doing, Harry replied that he was “doing great.”
The comment marks one of the first personal updates from Harry since his recent meeting with Charles at Highgrove.
Buckingham Palace has not disclosed the type of cancer the King was diagnosed with. In an earlier update, Charles revealed that his treatment schedule had been significantly reduced and was expected to taper off gradually.
Harry made a surprise appearance at the private sports gala, where he delivered a speech about the influence of sport and the often-unseen sacrifices made by athletes.
“It’s truly an honor to be here tonight to celebrate the power of sport,” he said. “I don’t just mean the big wins and historic moments. I mean the tough losses, the sacrifices, the moments that no one ever sees.”
The Duke also reflected on how sport can shape a person’s character, discipline and sense of belonging.
“Sport is where you first felt the essence of teamwork and community,” he said. “It shaped your discipline, your drive and your very identity. It taught you to revel in the challenges and the joy of overcoming or defying the odds.”
