Prince William and Kate Middleton appear increasingly comfortable showing affection in public, according to a body language expert.
The Prince and Princess of Wales, who are expected to become king and queen in the future, have been married since 2011. Over the years, the couple have generally maintained a reserved public image, but recent appearances suggest they may now feel more at ease displaying their affection.
Speaking to the Daily Mail, body language expert Judi James said the change does not indicate a shift in the strength of their relationship.
“Their rituals suggest there’s been no real change in the intensity of their love for one another,” she said. “What’s happened is they have finally felt safe enough to trust, not each other, but the public and the press, to show it.”
Commenting on one of the couple’s public embraces, James said the gesture appeared spontaneous and emotionally warm.
“It’s a hug that suggests all inhibitions are being jettisoned as the desire to greet and cherish takes over,” she explained.
According to James, this marks the “latest chapter” of William and Kate’s marriage, with the couple becoming more comfortable expressing their affection through physical gestures in public.
She added that their public displays of affection have also become part of their personal image and the modern royal brand they represent.
