Prince William is reportedly planning significant changes as he prepares for his future role as Britain’s monarch.
The Prince of Wales is said to be determined to establish firm boundaries with the media, particularly when it comes to protecting the privacy of his family.
Royal author Simon Vigar, whose upcoming book is titled The Four Wives of Windsor: Rivalries, Influence, and the Real Power Behind the Crown, believes William has already hinted at the changes he intends to introduce.
“William dropped those big hints in the Apple TV documentary The Reluctant Traveler, talking about the changes that he wants to make,” Vigar said.
“I’d put money on that being one of them,” he added, referring to a stricter approach to media access.
Vigar also recalled the informal agreement between the press and the Royal Family that allowed William to study at university without constant media attention.
“The gentleman’s agreement to leave William alone at university did hold,” he said. “The only organisation that actually broke it was a television company owned by his uncle, Prince Edward.”
The royal expert believes William may seek similar arrangements for his own children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis, as they grow older.
“When George, Charlotte and Louis complete university and enter their twenties, I think there will be a similar agreement,” Vigar explained.
He added that privacy laws continue to evolve, meaning future discussions between the Royal Family and the media could lead to stronger protections for the young royals.
