Prince William is reportedly putting the future of the monarchy first as King Charles explores the possibility of rebuilding his relationship with Prince Harry.
Royal commentator Kinsey Schofield discussed William’s position following claims that the Prince of Wales was not told about his father’s meeting with Harry and Meghan Markle.
“I don’t see this as Prince William losing influence,” Schofield told Fox News Digital. “I see it as King Charles recognizing that Prince Harry is his relationship to manage.”
She said William’s approach reflects the responsibilities he will eventually inherit as king.
“Prince William’s priority is protecting the future of the monarchy,” Schofield said. “Charles can afford to make emotional decisions that William, as the next king, probably cannot.”
According to the expert, William is currently more concerned with safeguarding his family and the institution than repairing his relationship with Harry.
“The consistent message I’ve heard is that Prince William isn’t focused on reconciliation,” she claimed.
Schofield said William’s reluctance should not be seen as an act of revenge. Instead, she believes it comes from a place of caution after years of damaging public disclosures.
“I’ve never gotten the impression William is driven by revenge. I think he’s driven by caution,” she said.
The commentator described William as a sensitive person but claimed that Harry’s interviews, documentaries, memoir and public accusations have left him unconvinced that anything has changed.
William has reportedly reached a stage where actions carry “infinitely more” weight than words.
Schofield said a meaningful reconciliation would only become possible after trust had been rebuilt over time, particularly by ensuring that personal discussions remain confidential.
“Before there’s ever a meaningful reconciliation, there would have to be a sustained period in which private conversations remain private and confidence is gradually rebuilt,” she said. “Right now, that appears to be the biggest hurdle.”
