Protest Targets King Charles During Scotland Visit Over Prince Andrew Controversy

King Charles faced a small anti-monarchy protest in Edinburgh on Wednesday as he attended the annual Order of the Thistle ceremony during Holyrood Week.

A group of demonstrators gathered outside the event to voice criticism of the Royal Family, with several protesters holding placards referring to Prince Andrew's past association with the late convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.

The protest took place as the King and senior members of the Royal Family attended the ceremony at St Giles' Cathedral in Edinburgh.

Holyrood Week, also known as Royal Week, is an annual tradition during which the monarch spends time in Scotland, visiting communities, meeting local residents and recognising individuals for their contributions to public life. The week also includes official engagements at the Palace of Holyroodhouse.

The anti-monarchy campaign group Republic said it organised the demonstration, sharing images from the protest on social media.

"We won't let the royals dodge accountability," the group said in a statement accompanying the posts.

Several protesters carried signs asking, "What did you know about Andrew?" in reference to the ongoing scrutiny surrounding Prince Andrew's links to Epstein.

Prince Andrew stepped back from public royal duties in 2019 following widespread criticism over his association with Epstein. He was later stripped of his honorary military titles and royal patronages by the late Queen Elizabeth II, though he remains a member of the Royal Family. Buckingham Palace has not commented on Wednesday's protest.
