Omid Scobie was once one of the most prominent reporters covering Meghan Markle and Prince Harry. As the co-author of Finding Freedom, he closely followed the couple's departure from royal life, their move to Canada and their eventual new start in Montecito.
But in recent months, Scobie has said little about the Duke and Duchess of Sussex. That silence has led to growing questions about whether his relationship with the couple has changed.
Celebrity reporter Rob Shuter has now added to the speculation. Writing in his Naughty But Nice Substack, Shuter quoted a source who claimed Scobie did not willingly step away from covering Meghan.
“There is no way Omid walked away,” the source alleged.
According to the insider, Meghan had become Scobie's biggest story and played an important role in his public profile. The source suggested that, if their professional relationship did come to an end, the decision was unlikely to have been his.
“If someone ended this relationship, it wasn't him,” the source claimed.
The insider also made a broader allegation about Meghan's relationships, saying she has a pattern of valuing people while they remain useful to her and distancing herself once that is no longer the case.
However, there is no public confirmation from Meghan, Prince Harry or Scobie that any falling-out took place.
Scobie has recently shifted his attention away from royal reporting and toward television and fiction writing. He has also previously maintained that he was never part of the Sussexes' close personal circle. Reports have noted that he does not socialize with the couple, does not have their personal phone numbers and has relied on independent sources rather than direct access.
Still, Shuter's source questioned whether Scobie would voluntarily leave behind the subject that helped build his career.
“Walking away from your biggest story doesn’t make sense,” the insider alleged. “Being pushed aside does.”
For now, the real reason behind Scobie's reduced coverage of Meghan and Harry remains unclear. His career move may simply reflect a change in professional direction, while claims of a private split remain unverified speculation.
