Prince Harry returned to London this week for a private Invictus Games Foundation engagement, but Meghan Markle did not accompany him because of ongoing security concerns.
The Duke of Sussex was seen arriving at the Royal Hospital Chelsea on Wednesday, where he attended several meetings related to the 2027 Invictus Games in Birmingham. According to reports, Harry entered the venue through a side entrance to avoid media attention.
Meghan had initially been expected to join her husband during the London visit. However, it was confirmed shortly before the engagement that she would remain in California with the couple’s children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.
Her decision was reportedly linked to concerns about the family’s security while travelling in the United Kingdom. Harry has repeatedly spoken about the safety risks he believes his wife and children could face during visits to the country.
The London engagement marked the beginning of the official one-year countdown to the 2027 Invictus Games. Harry founded the international sporting event for wounded, injured and sick military personnel and veterans in 2014.
The Invictus Games also hold special meaning for Harry and Meghan. The couple made their first official public appearance together at the 2017 Games in Toronto.
Harry’s visit came amid another legal setback in the United Kingdom. London’s High Court dismissed his privacy lawsuit against Associated Newspapers, the publisher of the Daily Mail.
The Duke and several other prominent figures, including Elton John, had accused the publisher of unlawfully obtaining private information that was allegedly used in articles published between the 1990s and 2011.
