Prince William and King Charles are reportedly united in preventing Prince Harry from returning to the monarchy on his own terms.
Although Charles is believed to be more open to repairing his relationship with his younger son, William is said to remain deeply opposed to welcoming Harry back into the royal fold.
The King was reportedly informed about Harry's return to the UK last week, but the Prince of Wales is still struggling to accept the development. William is believed to remain hurt and angry over the public accusations Harry has made against the Royal Family since stepping down from royal duties.
Former royal butler Grant Harrold told The Independent that William was unlikely to overlook what had happened.
“William will be furious. Harry has said some extraordinary things about the family,” Harrold said. “William is somebody that when you break trust and you go beyond a certain point, there’s no going back.”
Despite taking different approaches toward Harry, Charles and William reportedly agree that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex cannot return as “half-in, half-out” royals. Harry and Meghan Markle had sought such an arrangement before leaving their senior royal roles in 2020.
The couple moved to California with their son, Prince Archie, and later spoke publicly about their experiences within the monarchy. During a televised interview, they also raised concerns about conversations within the family regarding their son’s skin color.
Harry and Meghan have since welcomed their daughter, Princess Lilibet, and continue to live in California.
