King Charles appears to have decided which son needs his support most, but his reported efforts to welcome Prince Harry back into the royal fold are said to be creating fresh tension with Prince William.
With Harry reportedly planning another trip to the UK, relations between Buckingham Palace and Kensington Palace are believed to be under growing strain.
According to New Idea, the situation has become particularly concerning for William, whose patience is allegedly being pushed to its limit.
“He fears Charles bending over backwards to welcome Harry home is going to put him in an untenable position,” a source told the outlet.
The insider claimed William’s position remains clear, with the Prince of Wales focused on protecting the “security and safety of the family.”
The latest tension reportedly stems from Charles’ desire to repair his relationship with his younger son. There has also been speculation that Harry could be invited to Highgrove or Balmoral, although no such plans have been officially confirmed.
With the Duke of Sussex rumored to be returning to Britain in the months leading up to Christmas, some royal commentators have questioned whether he could also be hoping for an invitation to spend the festive season with the Royal Family.
Charles is reportedly excited by the possibility of reconnecting with Harry’s children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet. William, however, is said to be more cautious about what Harry's return could mean for the rest of the family.
“Charles is all caught up in the excitement of seeing his grandkids, but what about leaks and tell-alls?” the source questioned.
William reportedly fears that his father could be walking into a difficult situation, but believes there is little he can do to change the King’s mind.
“It’s incredibly frustrating for William, and the fear is that Charles is walking into a trap,” the insider claimed. “Charles has very little patience for what he considers to be ‘negativity’ regarding Harry’s return.”
Neither Buckingham Palace nor Kensington Palace has publicly confirmed the reported disagreement.
