Prince William is reportedly taking a firm position as questions continue to surround King Charles’ possible reconciliation with Prince Harry.
The Prince of Wales is said to be concerned about how renewed contact with Harry could affect both his father and the wider royal family, particularly after years of tension between the Sussexes and the Firm.
Royal commentator Emily Ferguson discussed William’s reported concerns in a piece for the Daily Express, suggesting that the future king feels caught in a difficult position. While he may not be able to stop his father from rebuilding ties with Harry, he is reportedly worried about the emotional consequences if things go wrong.
According to Ferguson, William’s stance comes largely from his desire to protect his family.
“As a deeply loyal and protective man, [William] doesn’t want his family to go through any more hurt at the hands of Harry,” she wrote.
However, Ferguson suggested that the King faces another problem regardless of how he chooses to handle any future meetings with his younger son.
She argued that if Charles decides to keep his conversations with Harry private, the decision could still be interpreted negatively.
“You can bet that if the King decides it’s best to keep meetings with Harry private, the Sussex machine will spin it as a snub,” Ferguson claimed.
The commentator said this leaves Charles with a difficult decision over whether to follow his personal desire for reconciliation or take a more cautious approach.
“So this will be a tricky path for the King to walk down; does he follow his heart or his head?” she wrote.
Ferguson added that there is still time for the royal family to decide how best to handle the situation, with the Invictus Games in Birmingham still months away.
For now, reports suggest William remains protective of his father and cautious about what renewed contact with Harry could mean for the family. Neither William nor King Charles has publicly confirmed the private concerns described in the report.
