Meghan Markle reportedly walked away from her latest encounter with King Charles feeling more like an outsider than a member of the Royal Family.
According to a source familiar with the situation, strict rules surrounding the visit left the Duchess of Sussex frustrated and questioning whether putting herself through a similar experience again would be worthwhile.
The meeting took place more than a week ago and has since sparked plenty of debate among royal commentators. While some have questioned why the reunion happened at all, others have defended the King’s reportedly cautious approach.
But that caution is said to have been difficult for Meghan.
Speaking to RadarOnline, a source claimed Harry and Meghan were given firm instructions ahead of the visit about photographs, social media posts and what information could be shared publicly.
The insider said the restrictions were particularly uncomfortable for Meghan after years of living independently in California and controlling how she communicates with the public.
According to the source, the experience ultimately left her feeling hurt and excluded.
The lack of a relaxed family atmosphere reportedly added to those feelings. Rather than viewing the occasion as a straightforward family reunion, Meghan allegedly felt that every public-facing detail was being closely monitored.
The source claimed she came away with the impression that she and Harry were being treated more like a public relations concern than family members returning for a private visit.
Harry, meanwhile, is said to have approached the reunion differently.
His focus was reportedly on moving forward, rebuilding trust with his father and creating opportunities for King Charles to spend meaningful time with his grandchildren.
Meghan, however, was said to have left with a much less positive impression.
The insider claimed she felt that many of the issues that had contributed to tensions in the past were still present, including strict control, excessive caution and what she perceived as a continuing lack of trust.
Despite following the boundaries set for the visit and keeping a low profile, Meghan reportedly felt she was still being treated as someone on the outside.
The source said the experience has now left her wondering whether there is any real benefit in going through the same process again if little has changed within the family dynamic.
