Prince Harry’s reported efforts to rebuild his relationship with King Charles are said to be causing concern for his older brother, Prince William.
The Duke of Sussex has reportedly invited his father to attend the 2027 Invictus Games in Birmingham. A potential appearance by the King would mark a significant step forward in their relationship following years of public tension.
The invitation reportedly followed a private meeting at Highgrove last month, when Harry visited Britain with Meghan Markle and their children.
Sources claim William understands his father’s desire to repair his relationship with Harry. However, the Prince of Wales is reportedly worried that the reconciliation could become a major public spectacle and draw the Royal Family into further controversy.
“The possibility of Charles appearing alongside Harry at Invictus would therefore represent a major development,” an insider told RadarOnline.com.
Harry founded the international sporting event for wounded, injured and sick military personnel and veterans. Birmingham is due to host the next Games in 2027.
According to the source, a public appearance by King Charles could also boost Harry’s profile as he continues to campaign over security arrangements for himself and his family during visits to Britain.
“An appearance by the monarch would additionally provide enormous international exposure for Invictus, while producing images of Charles and Harry together after years dominated by reports of their strained relationship,” the insider said.
Another source claimed William’s concerns stem partly from his wish to shield his family from renewed controversy following Harry’s public allegations about royal life.
While a reunion between Charles and Harry could help ease tensions, William reportedly remains cautious about the wider consequences of bringing his brother back into the royal spotlight.
