Queen Camilla is the Royal Family’s most ‘extraordinary’ member: Here’s why

Queen Camilla has been praised as one of the most self-assured and resilient members of the Royal Family.

Camilla, who married King Charles in 2005, has adapted to royal life with remarkable confidence despite never seeking public prominence.

Author Catherine Mayer believes the Queen’s strong sense of identity has helped her navigate years of intense public scrutiny.

“She is extraordinarily certain of who she is and what is important to her: Charles and her family,” Mayer said. “That gives her a strength that can at times be ruthless but is always impressive.”

According to Mayer, Camilla’s transformation has less to do with changes in her personality and more to do with how the public now sees her.

“Hers is not a story of change but of changing views of her. It is extraordinary,” she explained. “What other woman can you think of in public life who has managed to go from being classed as a public enemy to being a stalwart of the establishment?”

Mayer added that Camilla has changed only where necessary, adapting naturally to the responsibilities that come with being a senior royal.

“The only ways [Camilla] has changed are in adapting, with ease, to the royal role,” she said. “This is surprising only because she was not a woman who sought a career or prominence.”
