King Charles reportedly played a behind-the-scenes role in Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s return to Britain with their children.
A friend of the monarch claimed Harry was “informally encouraged” by his father to move back from the United States. According to the source, Charles believes the royal family is stronger when its members are united.
“The king’s faith has played a part, but ultimately this is a strategic decision for the good of the family,” the insider told The Daily Beast. “The stand-off needed to be resolved.”
Another source, described as a friend of other royals but not the King, suggested the Sussexes would have faced resistance if Charles had opposed their return.
“If the king didn’t want Harry and Meghan here, they wouldn’t be here,” the source told The Royalist. “Words would have been dropped in the right ears to ostracize them and the newspapers would have been briefed that the king was not on board with it.”
The insider said that no such effort was taking place, claiming Charles wants the Duke and Duchess of Sussex to be happy and establish a life in the UK.
“The king clearly wants them to be happy and settle here, and he and his staff are doing nothing to obstruct that,” the source added. “It’s a huge opportunity for Harry and Meghan to start again.”
Harry and Meghan reportedly arrived in Britain with Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet on Wednesday. The couple are also said to have enrolled their children in a private school in the UK.
