The appearance came amid attention surrounding Spencer’s book, which explores Diana’s life and her troubled marriage to Charles.
In the memoir, Spencer alleges that Charles sounded happy in the hours after Diana’s death in 1997. He describes the then-Prince of Wales as “giddily elated” and compares his tone to that of a “lottery winner”.
The palace pushed back against Spencer’s account. A spokesperson said the King was “mindful that the pain of fraternal grievance can cloud reason, judgment and memory”.
Spencer, who gave a widely praised tribute at his sister’s funeral, describes the book as a personal, loving and honest portrait of Diana and her sudden rise to worldwide fame.
