Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have reportedly been sent a strong message from the royal family following their return to Britain.
Royal commentator Rob Shuter discussed the Duke and Duchess of Sussex on The Nerve podcast, claiming the palace plans to take a long-term approach rather than react to the couple’s every move.
According to Shuter, the royals are prepared to let Harry and Meghan handle the consequences if their attempt to rebuild their public profile in Britain does not go as planned.
“Harry and Meghan only see five to 10 minutes into the future. They play the here and now,” he claimed.
Shuter argued that the royal family operates very differently, saying its members plan years, and sometimes decades, ahead.
“The royals play not next week, but the next 10 or 20 years. That’s how far ahead they are looking,” he said. “They plan that company, that family, like it’s a major business. It is a business. And so, they’re not looking for the easy hit.”
He also suggested that the palace will not interfere with the publicity surrounding the Sussexes.
“I’m told that the royals are going to just let them. Just let them do it. Just let them,” Shuter said.
He claimed the royal family’s position is that it will remain standing regardless of what unfolds over the coming months or years.
“And a year from now, six months from now, five years from now, we’ll still be standing,” he added.
However, Shuter warned that this hands-off approach could leave Harry and Meghan without palace support if their plans backfire.
“The palace won’t be there to clear up,” he claimed. “That’s what I’ve been told from my sources inside the palace, that they’re not going to help them.”
He ended with a blunt warning for the couple: “But maybe worse than that, when things go wrong, they’re not going to fix it.”
