Meghan Markle is facing fresh criticism as questions grow over how the British public might respond to her reported return to the UK.
The Duchess of Sussex has remained a controversial figure since stepping back from royal duties with Prince Harry. In past interviews, she said the royal family failed to support her while she struggled with her mental health. She also faced criticism after appearing to recreate her first curtsy to Queen Elizabeth II in the couple’s Netflix series.
Her reported return with Prince Harry and their children comes as the holiday season approaches. Some reports claim Prince William may stay away from a royal family gathering if the Sussexes are invited. However, these claims have not been confirmed.
The speculation comes as Harry is reportedly trying to repair his relationship with the royal family.
Speaking to the Daily Express, US-based columnist and royal commentator Lee Cohen said he believes Meghan has little chance of rebuilding her public image in Britain.
Cohen accused her of bringing “drama, grievance and attention-seeking” to an institution based on duty and service. He also claimed her actions had affected the final years of Queen Elizabeth’s life.
The commentator went on to argue that Meghan does not deserve another chance with the royal family. He said she should remain permanently separated from the relatives she had publicly criticized.
Cohen’s remarks reflect his personal opinion. Meghan and Prince Harry have not publicly responded to his latest comments.
