Piers Morgan has criticized Charles Spencer after Princess Diana’s brother defended claims about King Charles in his new book.
Speaking to the BBC, Spencer said he was telling the truth about a phone call with Charles shortly after Diana’s death.
Spencer claims that Charles, who was then Prince of Wales, said, “we’ll forget her soon enough.” He said the comment came during an argument about whether Prince William and Prince Harry should walk in their mother’s funeral procession.
Spencer said he had only spoken to Charles on the phone twice in his life. He insisted he had listened closely and remembered the exact words.
“I can tell you here and now, those are exactly the words he said,” Spencer told the BBC.
The palace responded by saying that pain and hurt involving a sibling can affect a person’s judgment and memories, even years after a loss.
