Princess Kate is reportedly finding some royal events difficult after returning to public duties following her cancer treatment.
The Princess of Wales struggles with large, crowded receptions because she naturally has a soft voice. This can make it hard for guests to hear her in a noisy room.
A senior royal expert told RadarOnline.com that Kate may appear relaxed in photographs, but these events can be demanding. Hundreds of people may be talking and moving around at the same time, while many guests hope to meet her.
“Catherine isn't somebody who naturally projects her voice across a crowded room, so being heard above all that noise can genuinely be challenging,” the expert said.
Kate also likes to give people her full attention. She prefers to stop and listen carefully instead of sharing a few quick words before moving on.
As a result, she sometimes spends longer with guests than the schedule allows. Those around her often remind her to speak louder, and events can run late when she becomes interested in someone’s story.
Although Kate has received training for public appearances and has grown more confident, she still prefers speaking quietly.
The princess spoke about this challenge at a Buckingham Palace reception last year.
“I find these environments are really hard,” Kate said. “I’ve also got a very soft voice, so I always get told, ‘Speak up a bit louder!’”
