A royal commentator has warned that Prince William could seek to remove Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s royal titles if King Charles does not act.
The warning follows claims that William played a key role in a letter issued on the King’s orders describing Harry and Meghan as “private citizens” in the UK.
An unnamed source told royal commentator Anisiobi that William saw the letter as an important victory. The source claimed it gave him hope that his father was beginning to share his concerns.
According to the source, William will keep pressing Charles to remove the couple’s titles.
The Daily Express US reported that commentator Mark Dolan believes William could pursue the move himself when he becomes king if Charles leaves their titles in place.
Dolan also warned that removing the titles could deepen the divide between the couple and the royal family. He claimed Harry and Meghan would use the decision to support their view that they have been treated unfairly.
He argued that their Duke and Duchess of Sussex titles allow them to continue presenting themselves as royal, which he sees as a problem for the monarchy.
“I don't think Charles will strip the titles. I think William will, and it's going to be ugly,” Dolan said.
