King Charles could face criticism during Caribbean tour

Campaigners want the King to apologise for Britain’s role in slavery.

King Charles could face calls for an apology over Britain’s role in slavery during his upcoming Caribbean tour.

According to royal reporter Russell Myers, writing in the Mirror, the King will begin an eight-day visit in Nassau. The reported route includes The Bahamas, Guyana, and Antigua and Barbuda.

Myers said Charles would arrive with a busy schedule and a wish to listen. Royal aides reportedly said he would discuss Britain’s links to slavery and take part in moments of reflection.

However, some campaigners want more than a discussion about the past.

Myers said the British government remains opposed to paying reparations. These are payments intended to help address the harm caused by slavery. He also explained that the King acts on advice from government ministers.

The chair of the Bahamas National Reparations Committee told Myers that a visit without an apology would be unacceptable.

The trip comes as Charles continues cancer treatment.

Separately, the King’s team reportedly shared an online announcement on the same day Meghan Markle introduced new products from her As Ever brand. The report does not explain what the royal announcement was or provide evidence that its timing was aimed at Meghan.

The second part of Meghan’s Holiday Collection was scheduled for Thursday, October 22, following an earlier advent calendar release. The collection focuses on hosting guests and includes a Trellis porcelain tea set.
