Prince Harry and Meghan Markle reportedly will not spend Christmas with the royal family this year.
A source told Page Six on Friday that the couple will not join King Charles, Prince William, and other royal family members at Sandringham. Relations between Harry, Meghan, and the family remain strained.
The source said King Charles makes the final decisions and suggested the couple want to avoid a difficult situation.
According to the source, Harry and Meghan may spend Christmas at a cottage in Northamptonshire, where they are reportedly staying. Meghan’s mother, Doria Ragland, is expected to join them.
The news follows reports that Harry and Meghan planned to apologize to Prince William and Princess Kate to help repair their relationship.
However, Emily Nash, royal editor at HELLO!, said those reports were not true.
She explained that the apology story had been strongly denied. Some reports then presented that denial as Harry and Meghan refusing to apologize, but Nash said that was not quite accurate.
She added that the situation shows how strained the family’s relationship remains. In her view, nothing has changed.
