Harry reflects on losing his mother and the difference between losing one parent and both.
Prince Harry has shared an update on King Charles’ health while speaking about the pain of losing his mother, Princess Diana.
In an interview with GQ, Harry was asked how his father’s cancer diagnosis had affected him.
“He’s getting better,” Harry said. King Charles announced his cancer diagnosis in February 2024.
Harry also spoke about how losing both parents can feel different from losing one. He said friends who had lost both parents described feeling like orphans, even in their 40s or 50s.
He explained that he had never thought about it that way before.
Harry was 12 when Diana died. He said he has wondered since childhood whether it is harder to lose a parent suddenly or watch them face a long illness but have time to say goodbye.
He said there is no clear answer. Some of his friends and family have cancer, and his own mother died suddenly.
Harry also spoke about his final phone call with Diana, saying it remains one of his biggest regrets. If he had known it would be their last conversation, he said, he would have spoken to her differently.
