Prince William shares funny story about unexpected singing request

Prince William shared a funny moment from a visit to Somerset, where a man mistook him for the late singer Prince.

Speaking on The Graham Norton Show on Friday, October 23, William said he was meeting local people when a man asked him, “When are you going to sing?”

William was confused and asked what he meant. The man then asked when he would give his performance.

A woman standing behind the man gently tapped his arm and said, “No, no, he’s not that prince.”

William explained that the man wanted him to sing “Purple Rain,” one of Prince’s best-known songs. He added that he did not know the lyrics.

The American singer Prince, whose full name was Prince Rogers Nelson, died in April 2016.

William appeared on the show ahead of the Earthshot Prize event, which is scheduled for November 17, 2026, in Mumbai, India. He founded the prize.

Cate Blanchett, Robert Irwin and Hannah Waddingham, who are also involved with Earthshot, joined him on the show.
