William explains how he hopes the prize will inspire people to help the environment.
Prince William shared the story behind his Earthshot Prize during an appearance on The Graham Norton Show.
According to the report, he became the first member of his family to appear on the show. The episode was scheduled to air on BBC One on October 23 at 10:40 p.m.
The Independent and the BBC reported that William wanted to bring more hope to discussions about environmental problems.
He said years of hearing negative news about the environment had left him feeling discouraged. This inspired him to create an awards ceremony that would focus on solutions and give people hope, while making clear that action is needed now.
The Earthshot Prize launched in 2020 and is planned to run until 2030.
The Prince and Princess of Wales’ official Instagram account shared a photo of William sitting on the show’s famous red sofa. The caption encouraged viewers to watch the special Earthshot episode.
Cate Blanchett, Hannah Waddingham and Robert Irwin also appeared alongside William.
The report said that year’s Earthshot Prize ceremony was scheduled to take place in Mumbai, India, in November.
