An insider responds to concerns about the King’s appearance and speculation over his royal future
A source has spoken to Woman’s Day following claims that King Charles appeared “tiny,” “small” and “weak” during his tour, with some suggesting he was wearing unusually heavy makeup.
According to the insider, the unofficial account from aides was that the King’s team received its usual briefing. They would reject suggestions that extra makeup was needed and describe those spreading the claims as “mischief-makers and alarmists”.
Still, the source acknowledged that Charles appeared more vulnerable during the visit.
The insider described the trip as challenging, noting that the King knew he would have to address the sensitive subject of the slave trade. Despite that pressure, they said there was broad agreement that he handled the issue well and engaged warmly with his hosts.
The source also addressed speculation about whether Charles might reduce his duties or step aside for Prince William. Both the King and Queen, they said, are skilled at ignoring such commentary or setting it aside while maintaining their composure.
“The King takes his role as Sovereign as a life calling, quite literally, and models himself on his late mother in that regard,” the insider said.
According to the source, the prevailing view within the monarchy is that Charles will continue serving for as long as he is physically able. Royal duty remains his overriding priority, and stepping away is not considered open for discussion.
