Duke of York Secures Independent Funding After Monarch Cuts Financial Support
Prince Andrew has made a surprising announcement, pushing back against King Charles after the monarch’s decision to cut his brother’s financial support.
The Duke of York has reportedly secured “legitimate” funds to cover his expenses, convincing the royal family that he can continue residing at the Royal Lodge without assistance from the Crown. The Times reports that Andrew has demonstrated his ability to maintain the property, easing concerns about his finances.
A source revealed, “If Andrew can pay for his own upkeep with legitimate means, then it is not an issue. However, the King’s patience has worn thin when it comes to subsidising his brother’s lifestyle, which no longer aligns with his status.”
Sir Michael Stevens, Keeper of the Privy Purse, confirmed that the Duke’s new financial plan relies on legally sourced funds.
King Charles had previously urged Andrew to vacate the lavish residence, citing the high maintenance costs after the Duke was stripped of his royal duties. The King suggested a move to Frogmore Cottage, the former home of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, but Andrew declined the offer, signalling his intent to stay put at the Royal Lodge.
