King Charles Plans Bold Diplomatic Move Ahead of Trump Visit

Monarch to Prioritise Commonwealth Values While Upholding US-UK Relations

King Charles is preparing to receive US President Donald Trump during his upcoming state visit to the United Kingdom in September, following the royal family's summer break. However, the monarch is reportedly ready to assert his stance on an issue close to his heart.

Trump recently sparked controversy by suggesting that Canada could become the 51st state of America—a comment that did not sit well with the King. Royal commentator Jennie Bond told the Mirror, “I imagine the King thinks Trump is impudent in the extreme by suggesting Canada should become the 51st US State.”

Bond added, “I can almost hear the huffing and puffing that it must have provoked behind Palace walls. But Charles also knows that Anglo-American relations are vitally important, and his duty is to help his Government protect that relationship.”

While King Charles is expected to emphasise the importance of UK-US ties, he also intends to send a clear message that Canada's sovereignty is not negotiable. “The President views himself as an arch negotiator, but it has to be said that the King is no mean hand himself at convening meetings and encouraging people to hammer out a solution to a variety of issues and problems,” Bond noted.
