Insiders say the Queen Consort is quietly backing a reconciliation despite lingering hurt
Queen Camilla appears to be extending an olive branch to Harry and Meghan Markle, signalling a possible thaw in long-running tensions within the royal family.
According to royal insiders, Camilla is prepared to welcome the couple back into the family fold, even though the process has not been easy for her. The gesture became noticeable after a photograph of Meghan alongside King Charles was prominently displayed at a tea party hosted at Clarence House.
The event, co-hosted by Camilla and Father Christmas, brought together children from charities supported by the royal family. Images from the gathering were later shared on Instagram, with the carefully placed photo catching the attention of royal watchers.
Royal commentator Richard Eden suggested the move was deliberate, describing it as part of what he called “Project Thaw,” an effort to rebuild relations with the Sussexes. A source echoed that view, telling Woman’s Day that Camilla had initially been hesitant but ultimately agreed to support the plan.
“This is what Charles wants, but it’s not easy for her, nor is it something she particularly wants to do,” the source said. “She knows she’s not the only one who would have to move forward from some very serious hurts if Harry and Meghan were to return.”
The insider added that the gesture was Camilla’s way of letting Harry and Meghan know she still considers them family. While she is said to be willing to forgive, the source stressed that she has not forgotten the pain caused by comments made in Spare, especially during the period leading up to the late Queen’s death.
For now, Camilla is reportedly choosing to let things go, aware of how much it would mean to Charles to have Harry back home and, just as importantly, to build a relationship with his grandchildren.
